A Non-Denomination Stocking for My Favorite People.

❝

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give

Winston Churchill

To thank you for your readership, subscribership, amazing emails throughout the year, and moral support when times got tough, I’ve made this last newsletter of 2024 a non-denominational virtual stocking and filled it with goodies.

A reminder that beginning 2025, this newsletter will be entering its paid era. This means that most of the newsletter will be behind a paywall. If you missed this announcement, you can read how and why I came to this deeply fraught decision, here.

I Made You a Psychology-Themed Crossword Puzzle.

Dispatches from the past to marvel over.

Books, Artists and Innovations

I love Transit Books. Most of my favorite books are books in translation, and TB publishes so many of them. Their Undelivered Lecture Series is also excellent. And don’t miss their 5 for $70 subscription box, which I added below.

They also have a children’s division!

One of my favorite discoveries this year…

The artist and Zine-maker Ares Maia. I came across her work at the Brooklyn Book Art Fair and fell madly in love.

Seems I am not alone…

Always This Guy

Sadie Benning

I used to watch Benning’s movies in college. She made films with a Fisher Price Pixelvision 2000 camera. The camera was a commercial failure, but it gave Benning an outlet to experiment and turned them into a filmmaker.

Speaking of Commercial Failures…

What would a non-denominational stocking be without a virtual visit to a very special museum? (Check out Medical Mishaps).

I hope you enjoyed this virtual stocking, and have a wonderful end of the year. Or, at least, a not terrible one.

Until next week, I remain…

Amanda

Sir Isaac Newton was born on this day, in the same year Galileo died.Β  Newton's work in vision and optics, and his deterministic philosophy of science have strongly influenced psychology.Β

P.S. Thank you for reading! This newsletter is my passion and livelihood; it thrives because of readers like you. If you've found solace, wisdom or insight here, please consider upgrading, and if you think a friend or family member could benefit, please feel free to share. Every bit helps, and I’m deeply grateful for your support. πŸ’™

Quick note: Nope, I’m not a therapistβ€”just someone who spent 25 years with undiagnosed panic disorder and 23 years in therapy. How to Live distills what I’ve learned through lived experience, therapy, and obsessive researchβ€”so you can skip the unnecessary suffering and better understand yourself.

Some links are affiliate links, meaning I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Every bit goes straight back into supporting this newsletter. Thank you!
